An Evening in Byzantium Review Paper Essay on An Evening in Byzantium As the increase in the number of books Irwin Shaws in my house, growing up, and interest in the personality of the author. But before you read this novel, I knew only that Irwin Shaw American. Look at Wikipedia made me own guess, maybe even intuition: Lo, this is a real Irwin And so it happened: I was right to calculate it. Evening in Byzantium autobiographical novel. If you want, youll see for yourself The novel for many very attractive -. Cannes, La Croisette, the famous Festival not only the main character, Craig .. why are you in Cannes? Im in Cannes, to save his life - was nearly escaped Craigs mouth It is unlikely that in the atmosphere of a generous sun, bustling waterfront terrace, luxurious receptions, anyone would take seriously the words of a successful producer. even for a long time not to release new films. Only relatives would try But even for them, our hero is closed. People like Craig, longer watch what they say, its when they attract, they guessed inner strength The girl -. Every mans dream beautiful, but not on this bet. With this there is always something to think about But what she needs, and who she really is, and why she knows so much about it?! All of these issues revolve in the air, along with the emerging sense But in this personal life hero finally came stability, reliability, confidence with the one that is just as beautiful, just as smart, just as independent and at the same time, committed to. lyrical atmosphere of history, I tried to convey to show a nice background a platform on which screaming spot stands out rampant film art artists and n sevdoartisty, hustlers, scam artists, buyers and sellers, gossips, prostitutes, pornographers, critics, hangers-on, the characters, the losers of the year in its nakedness. The pursuit of the almighty dollar. . Bordering the joy of the people the film industry with rigor and fickle world of cinema à » Against this background, the contrast stands a story of love pure, touching, vulnerable Leave all the achievements in the past, it was and it was, and try to go to his field through another gate. Heres what Craig has to do. As it is not easy! It is necessary to pay tribute to the character of the hero. You will meet with a clever, shrewd, not without self-irony, the hero, trying to keep the mind cool during hot heart, and sometimes on the contrary Once Upon hearing an unusual, but real love story, Craig conceives himself to write a screenplay . The manuscript not so bad, the one who brought thousands of amendments to other people. But how dare show their work and learn whether he is worthy of at least a two-hour attention ?! How else then wait for the verdict, and the one who used to first decide the fate of many authors ?! This task becomes almost impossible Only the inner strength, the rod the skeleton, I would say helps the hero. Even if he gives his work for someone else. After all, the identity of this magnitude does not stumble right. Or am I not right? Rather, it can, but to climb harder, in front of everybody Fall just do not have to take off, and thats a long flight to be ?! It all depends, again, from a woman and from the allotted time I would like to mention a quote appeal to the author, it seems to me, directly to the reader: By the end of the second month, he realized that to tell the story the old man and young girl thats not all. Not all, because in this story there is no place for him. Not him in the flesh, not the circumstances that forced him to sit every day, at a table in a quiet hotel room, and his beliefs, his character, his hopes, his judgments about the times in which he lived. Without this, all that he had, in the end, neither created, would be incomplete, useless. à » There is no good works without expression in its own convictions of the author. Irwin Shaw confirms my own views on the literature: Without a visible copyright participate, in their own words and deeds is important to reveal what it means for Americans, the second half of the twentieth century, the love of all intrigues, compromises and humiliations to which man pushing money, morals, authority, status, affiliation a particular class, cr asota and lack of beauty, honor and dishonor, illusions and disappointments. à » à « WITHOUT VISIBLE PARTICIPATION COPYRIGHT !! There is no pressure! Everything is free, for love! Irwin Shaw manages it as very few people, and for that I put it in a number of his favorite writers. His position in life is very close to me. An Evening in Byzantium Review Essay Example An Evening in Byzantium Review Paper Essay on An Evening in Byzantium Jess Craig 48 years. Hes a film producer, yet known, but standing at the very edge of the abyss of oblivion. For five years, Craig is the creative is not the search, not the crisis. He arrives in Cannes on the famous film festival, to, in his words, to save his life. Chances of survival are, for Hollywood, in spite of its short memory, still learns and recognizes the former Arbiter young playwrights and directors. Craig was still in the game, but does not allow the festival whirlpool tighten it into a series of secular banquets and parties. In Cannes, he has another goal he had come to reassert itself and, most importantly, he finally has something to say However, not only about his return to the movies day and night thinks Jess Craig.. In the novel, there is another line the women. No, not love, not romantic, but it is women. They are many, and all (everything) Belle (a kind of Olympus sample 1970). But Craigs women (who were also quite a few) a rare beauty. Each of them had a special relationship. But there is no love in the novel. Maximum a fad. In my opinion, this is a plus. Strong romantic line would greatly handled the product. And so everything is in harmony and moderation. Craig holds his saving campaign in an environment beneficial for men and attractive women, he is full of memories of the past and hopes for the future. In this sense, it is not the protagonist, upholding the highest values ââ¬â¹Ã¢â¬â¹of cinema as an art. No, hes one of those people who make a movie good money. When you do a movie, you do want it to look? But something still makes it stand out. Jess Craig truly loves what he does. Cinema his life. Cinema and the only love of this man, and all his women, no matter how they were queens, ever laid a secondary role. As a whole we can say about the book? She is interested in. The major role played by the excellent show tongue. Wonderful composition, everything is clear and to the point no empty sentences or phrases. If you listen to the story interesting conversationalist. As for the plot, it is also quite good. And yet .After Rich man, poor man (a favorite of my book) in the Evening in Byzantium I did not have the scale. I feel this book does not leave a clear imprint in my memory and strong impressions in the shower Or, perhaps, I could not see the magnitude of this in the glare of the spotlight Cannes ..

Social Learning Theory Essay Example
Social Learning Theory Essay Example Social Learning Theory Essay Social Learning Theory Essay This research by Bandura shows that there IS a difference between learning and actual performance. Children imitate behaviour under certain circumstances but always seem to learn it. Differences were apparent between Bandura and Walters study in 1963 and Banduras study in 1965 because only rewards were given to the children producing any type of behaviour. This shows inconsistency in research findings making it difficult to be able to draw conclusions. However, the differences between the 2 experiments show that children observing punishment has a larger effect on behaviour than if they see rewards suggesting that production of behaviour depends on how the observed behaviour is responded to by others. It is found that children are more likely to replicate observed behaviour if model was rewarded, whether other adults approved, whether other children imitated the behaviour, and whether the observer can relate to the model. There are also other factors to account for the findings from Banduras experiments especially to do with the family backgrounds the children were from. Hollins and Howells found that children raised by aggressive parents were also likely to be aggressive themselves. This suggests that children have learned the aggression from their family home and repeated it in different social contexts i. e. took aggression out on the Bobo doll. This therefore supports Social Learning Theory. Furthermore, Patterson et al (1989) found that in homes where there was at least one aggressive child, the common factor was a home environment where physical punishment and shouting were often used. This would increase aggression in people as they have learned it from their family and evidently would repeat it in the outside world because thats how theyve been brought up. Similarly, if children in a family were brought up in a caring background where you look after one other then you would find that these children are the least aggressive in society. Social Learning Theory has been largely supported by psychologists which has been shown through Banduras research. However his research was based solely on young childrens perception and learning of behaviour and doesnt account for adults therefore findings cannot be generalised to all of society. Phillips (1986) investigated Social Learning Theory in adults and found that homicide rate in adults was higher following the broadcast of a boxing match suggesting that observing this aggressive behaviour led more people to inflict harm on others. This therefore shows that social learning is present in adults providing empirical support for Social Learning Theory. Another strength is that Social Learning Theory accounts for a lack of consistency in aggressive behaviour. i. e. aggression in front of peers is different to behaviour shown around parents because behaviour is reinforced differently (context-dependent learning). Social Learning Theory also accounts for cultural differences in aggressive behaviour, i. e. individualistic cultures are more aggressive than collectivistic cultures because individuals learn from others how to look after themselves and how to survive. However, Bandura was criticised on the grounds that the television programmes he used in his experiments were not representative of the programmes at the time therefore again lacks ecological validity. It is also highly unethical to manipulate childs behaviour as they probably did not give informed consent even though parents allowed them to participate. Social Learning Theory has also been largely criticised by biological researchers. They argue that the theory completely ignores individuals biological state. they state that the social learning theory rejects the differences of individuals due to genetic, brain, and learning differences (Jeffrey, 1985: p. 238) The effect of the media on aggression has also been widely researched. Aggression ideas shown by the media, influences people to observe, learn and imitate the behaviour. However, evidence for this is inconclusive. Media may simply be a contributing factor, all the other factors like family background and individual differences could account for peoples levels of aggression. In conclusion, Social Learning Theory as an explanation of aggression ignores that aggression can be innate and the amount of arousal within the person at the time can affect behaviour largely. However, the theory is largely supported in psychology as is demonstrated through Banduras work with the Bobo dolls. These experiments demonstrate conclusively that the acquisition and production of aggression is socially mediated. (Cardwell and Flanagan, 2004: p. 37). References Bandura, A. (1962). Mental Health Assessment and Management Case Study
Mental Health Assessment and Management - Case Study Example Depression will also always affect oneââ¬â¢s thoughts. The person will tend to think negatively about the world, family, self and their future. They will think of life being hopeless, they will think of themselves being useless and even think of taking their life (Roy, 2005; Lam, 2012). A depressed person will also either eat too much or not enough. Might have trouble sleeping or oversleep due to extreme tiredness. In the end, depression can affect oneââ¬â¢s life, to a point that it results in serious problems with oneââ¬â¢s family, at school, job and with friends (Roy, 2005; Lam, 2012). Mrs. Johnson is suffering from depression. She recently lost her job, which may be a sign of depression being the cause of losing the job. She feels worthless ââ¬Å"She feels her children may be ââ¬Å"better offâ⬠without herâ⬠. She also has a record of three-month worsening anxiety, which explains the depression. Anxiety is a cause, and also a symptom of depression. Other symptoms of depression identified from Mrs. Johnsonââ¬â¢s report are; decreased appetite decreased energy, and suicidal ideation (Roy, 2005; Lam, 2012). Another mental problem observed is suicide. Warning signs of suicidal person are; if the person is talking about suicide, if the person is depressed and feeling hopeless, if the person has low self-esteem, if there is change in the personââ¬â¢s sleeping patterns, eating habits (eating less or more than usual), personality (withdrawn, less sociable or sad), and behavior (poor/ reduced concentration). Mrs. Johnsonââ¬â¢s depression could be a cause of her lack of concentration that resulted in a loss of her job. She is to be divorced, and worries about her children. She thinks she is a failure. She may also have to sell her house. All these negative thoughts are a source of the thoughts about suicide. It could also be that Mrs. Johnsonââ¬â¢s accident could have been self-inflicted. She tells all her experiences in tears after the accident. It could mean that she was trying to end it all. This could have been her first attempt to suicide, and so she was explaining the reason as to why she needed it. From NHS information, it is also clear that Mrs. Johnson was, and is still vulnerable to suicide. Mental health, life history, lifestyle, relationships, employment, and genetics, are some of the factors that make one vulnerable to suicide (NHS, 2012). Mrs. Johnson has a family history of depression in his father and grandfather (paternal) and also has an uncle that committed suicide due to depression. She recently lost her job; her relationship with her husband is coming to an end, while that with her sons is filled with hopelessness as she perceives it. She is also depressed and has suffered anxiety for three months.

Career plan Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Career plan - Research Paper Example Becoming a teacher requires candidates to complete bachelorââ¬â¢s degrees in the field they want to serve as a high school teacher. For example, if a person wants to teach computer science at high school or university level, he/she needs to have a bachelorââ¬â¢s degree in computer science or information technology in order to be eligible for teaching. Moreover, some states also require additional certification to allow candidates for teaching, for instance, California and Florida require people to complete teacher-training programs, get certifications, and pass competency tests to become eligible for teaching. In California, a candidate needs to complete his/her bachelorââ¬â¢s degree first, undergo a teacher-training program, and complete English language development courses to get a preliminary credential (Kelly). In the United States, the working hours for the high school teachers usually lie between 36 to 40 hours per week on average. However, teachers also have to do some work at home, which may include checking studentsââ¬â¢ work, preparing assignments for students, grading assignments, and preparing lectures for the next day. Although such an amount of workload seems to be difficult to manage, but it keeps a person enthusiastic and fresh as far as I have observed. Moreover, teachers get more leaves as compared to other professionals because of summer holidays at schools and semester holidays in colleges and universities. In the United States, the pay scale for high school teachers is very attractive. A high school teacher usually receives around $55000 per year, which is considered a good salary in the United States (ââ¬Å"Salary Wizardâ⬠n.p.). Considering such salary and the professional duties of high school teachers, I would say that teaching should be the most preferred professional choice not only for me but for many other people too. Some of the main job responsibilities of a high school teacher include preparing lectures and tests, maintaining class

Induced Hypothermia in Post Cardiac Arrest Essay
Induced Hypothermia in Post Cardiac Arrest - Essay Example Lowering the patient's core temperature to 32-34 C is typical and appropriate for post cardiac arrest according to Bernard & Buist (2003). The use of hypothermia as a means of cerebral protection became established in the early days of cardiac surgery, the time when it was shown that hypothermia could prolong the safe period of circulatory arrest. From then on, hypothermic-perfusion-actively cooling body temperature down to 28 to 32 degrees Celsius during post cardiac arrest has been favored by the majority of surgeons for both valve surgery and CABG (Coronary Artery Bypass Graft). However, many surgeons argue that hypothermia is an unnecessary convention if systemic circulation is uninterrupted with the use of CPB (Cardiopulmonary Bypass and cerebral perfusion is assumed to be adequate. On one hand, the use of normothermicperfusion (maintaining body temperature at around 37 degrees or allowing to drift down without active cooling) has not produced any solid evidence from neither clinical practice nor prospective randomized trials. Hypothermia may also be induced for several medical purposes. ... A few trials have indicated that hypothermic perfusion may be beneficial and that normothermic perfusion is potentially harmful. Martin et al. (1994) were the first to report an increased rate of postoperative stroke, both early and late, in CABG patients randomized to normothermic perfusion (actively warmed to 35 degrees Celsius or higher). These findings have been questioned, because the use of retrograde cardioplegia in these patients could have increased the risk of cerebral embolism. More patients with neurologic deficits were also found in the group randomized to normothermia by Mora et al. (1996), although NP testing did not support a difference in outcome between the two groups. Only one study so far has suggested an effect of temperature on NP performance. Regragui et al. (1996) studied 70 patients randomized to three temperature groups: 28 C, 32 C, and 37 C. Normothermia was found to result in worse NP performance than the other two groups. However, both the small numbers of patients and the method of analysis of NP deterioration in the study caution against accepting this finding. The application of hypothermia in a post cardiac arrest may also protect the brain and spinal cord (Schepens et al. 1994). However, Colon R. et al. (1987) had found that it can also cause its own complications especially when the hypothermia is profound (Svensson et al. 1993). As an alternative, some surgeons like Gott (1972) have provided adjunctive intraoperative perfusion with temporary arterial shunts and partial extracorporeal bypass (Bloodwell et al. 1968) or retrograde cerebral perfusion during hypothermic circulatory arrest. Furthermore, there are other techniques that have been tried like the preoperative radiographic

Effects Of The Economic Crunch On Hospitality Industry Tourism Essay
Effects Of The Economic Crunch On Hospitality Industry Tourism Essay Introduction The hospitality industry is one of the most important industries globally since it generates billions of dollars across the world. This industry is large and it indirectly and directly employs staff in different professions including hotel industry, tourism industry, air travel industry and other industries. The hospitality industry mainly relies on disposable income of clients and presence of leisure time since many services in this industry are enjoyed during leisure time (Beaver, 2002). This industry is an important revenue earner in different economies especially those which rely on tourism as a major source of government revenue. However, the hospitality industry is a very sensitive industry which thrives on economic and political stability of various destinations and economies. Political and economic instability has a direct adverse effect on this industry and may lead to drastic revenue losses by such economies (Clifford, 2008). It is therefore important to analyze this industry in relation to available opportunities and present threats in order to predict future trends. This paper will assess the future trends in the hospitality industry. The available opportunities and present threats will be used to ascertain these trends. The paper will focus on both a global approach and an approach from the United States business environment. Recommendations on what should be done to improve the future of the hospitality industry will also be given. The discussed issues will be summarized at the end. Future trends Short term decline of industry due to economic crunch The hospitality industry is one of the most affected industries as far as the global economic crunch is involved. This industry relies on disposable incomes of families and due to the effects of the crunch; people are no longer able to afford holidays and leisure activities. Almost all countries experienced adverse effects of the crunch and the tourism industry was one of the most affected. For instance, tourism in Europe declined by over 5% over the past three years, due to effects of the financial crisis (Theobald, 2008). In the US, the industry declined by 3% in terms tourist arrivals. Worldwide, the tourism industry declined by an average of 4% over a similar period, which translated to 880 million tourists (John, 2010). Although many economies are struggling to reduce the effects of the crisis, the hospitality industry will be among the last to enjoy the benefits of massive financial injections to economies by governments. This is because services in the hospitality industry are considered luxuries by many households and luxuries are the final needs satisfied by rational beings after all other needs are exhausted. Long term growth due to massive investments In the long run, the hospitality industry is expected to grow largely due to the massive investments which are being undertaken around the world. One of the destinations where there is heavy investment in the industry is the Middle East and specifically Dubai. Billions of dollars have been invested in Dubai with the purpose of developing infrastructure needed to make it a world class destination. Investment in hotels, properties, golf courses, transport, buildings, cultural museums and other tourist attractions have been realized in recent years. This includes the worldà ¢Ã ¢Ã¢â¬Å¡Ã ¬Ã ¢Ã¢â¬Å¾Ã ¢s tallest building and a seven star hotel (Conrad Alison, 2009). Other governments which rely on tourism as an industry for revenue collection have also made massive investments. This shows that in the long run, consumers will have a larger variety of leisure activities to choose from, which will encourage the growth of the hospitality industry. Implementation of total quality management There has been a gradual improvement of service provision in the hospitality industry due to the implementation of total quality management. This strategy involves improvement of the quality of services provided to increase efficiency, reduce costs and meet the needs of all stakeholders in the industry. The Malcolm Baldridge Awards introduced in recent years has helped improve quality of service in this industry since it targets total quality management of firms in the industry (Christine, 2006). The Ritz Carlton hotel was one of the first to win the award, and to set new standards in provision of service in the hotel industry. Many firms in the hospitality industry have recognized the importance of improving service provision due to intense competition and market awareness of products offered. The improvement of service provision is likely to encourage the growth of the industry in the long run. Potential threats and opportunities There are various opportunities which can be exploited in the hospitality industry. There are also various threats to this industry and these should be mitigated to ensure the industry is successful in the long run. These opportunities and threats will be discussed below; Opportunities The major opportunity in the hospitality industry is investment in infrastructure needed to fuel the growth of the industry and target new and emerging markets. It has been discussed that many governments and private firm are investing in the industry especially in the Middle East. It is important to encourage consumers to demand such services if the effects of the global economic crunch are to be mitigated. This can be done through providing markets with unique services which were previously not offered and reduction of product prices to encourage local tourism in different countries (Jacques, 2000). Local tourism has a very large potential in many destinations, although it is underexploited in most cases. Packages which encourage local tourism should be developed and services which meet local needs made available in order to enable long term growth of the industry. Threats Global economic crisis One of the greatest threats to the future of the hospitality industry is the global economic crunch. The global economic crisis has led to reduction of the growth and development levels of most economies. This crisis has also led to massive unemployment and reduction of the disposable income of many families (Lennon Malcolm, 2008). It was previously discussed that the hospitality industry thrives on disposable income of clients and presence of leisure time. The global economic crunch has reduced the disposable income of families. It has also led to reduction in leisure time since many employees strive to work for longer hours in order to earn higher salaries which can mitigate effects of the crisis. The reduction of incomes and leisure time has led to a decrease in purchase of services in the hospitality industry by consumers. Fewer people are able to travel for leisure or have meals at restaurants and hotels since they consider these services to be luxuries. Unless adequate steps a re taken to reduce the effects of the global crunch, many firms in the hospitality industry may face losses in the long run. Implications of the trends on hospitality industry The implication of these trends in the hospitality industry is a short term decline and a long term growth of the industry. Although the industry has declined recently due to the effects of the financial crunch, there is potential for growth in the future due to massive investments and consumer awareness of products offered. However, the private sector and government have a responsibility of cooperating of this growth is to be achieved. Massive investments, innovation of unique services and consumer awareness of products offered is key to achieving this growth. It is important to make the following recommendations if long term growth of the hospitality industry is to be achieved in future. Recommendations Government interventions There are various government interventions which should be implemented if the hospitality industry is to grow and develop in future. Government interventions should mostly involve measures which stimulate economic growth and development as well as the creation of an environment which encourages the growth of the hospitality industry (Cooper, 2005). This includes a financial package which is geared towards encouraging more public investment and economic stability of firms especially during the current global economic crisis. It should also involve development of infrastructure which will ensure that the hospitality industry is able to meet the diverse needs of clients. Product differentiation Product differentiation is important in meeting unique market needs across different environments. It involves developing unique products to meet diverse needs in different environments. Firms in the hospitality industry should undertake research on market needs and develop products which meet unique needs across different environments (Wilkerson, 2003). This will ensure that customersà ¢Ã ¢Ã¢â¬Å¡Ã ¬Ã ¢Ã¢â¬Å¾Ã ¢ needs are satisfied and they remain loyal to providers of such services. In turn, the hospitality industry will enjoy long term profitability.

Psychotherapy Essay -- Psychology, Empirically Validated Treatments
I believe that the art of psychotherapy is more important than the use of empirically validated treatments (EVT). I feel that the art of psychotherapy exists through the use of the common factors, which include the therapeutic relationship, client and therapist factors (e.g., personality), helping clients deal with problems, and hope or expectancy factors (Reisner, 2005). Although I do believe that empirically validated treatments may enhance the therapeutic process, the treatments themselves are by no means the most important or fundamental aspects of therapy. I agree with the idea presented by Allen (2008) that scientific knowledge is important, but it is not sufficient for the successful outcomes in psychotherapy. There appears, at least to me, to be much more of an art involved in developing the relationship with the client and understanding the clientââ¬â¢s perspective, and if this cannot be done successfully then it is unlikely that individualized techniques could be success fully applied. Managed care has not completely eradicated the art of psychotherapy; however, as more research reveals EVTs are effective on more disorders, the use of the art of psychotherapy will likely decline. This would occur due to managed careââ¬â¢s preferences for the use of EVT, since there is evidence that they likely work quickly, saving time and money (Cukrowicz et al., 2005). In order to receive reimbursement and compete with psychopharmacology, there is a growing necessity for the reliance on empirically validated therapy (Reisner, 2005). However, certain artful tactics involved in psychotherapy will never be entirely removed, such as the development of a therapeutic relationship (Allen, 2008). With the rise of EVT, there is a possibility that mana... ... generally equal in how effective they are, but generally, it is the common factors across therapies that account for the most improvement in clients, not the specific techniques or treatments that are used (Reisner, 2005). Psychotherapy is arguably an art that cannot be conducted without some sense or understanding of life, meaning, and relationship issues that cannot be learned from science alone (Allen, 2008). Ideally, therapy should involve both science (empirically validated treatments) and art by combining the therapeutic relationship and knowledge of the clientââ¬â¢s needs with the proper treatment techniques. Overall, I do not feel that manualized treatments will ever completely replace the art of psychotherapy; however, it is likely that the combination of manualized treatments and the art of psychotherapy will lead to more successful therapeutic outcomes.
